Frequently Asked Questions...

How do I recharge the a/c in a 1997 lincoln town car?

I'm currently stuck without a/c in my car, and all I really need to know, is where do I put the nozzle for the recharge kit. I can only find one tube, where it looks like the nozzle will fit, but there's no writing discerning if thats the correct tube or not. It's the tube directly to the right of the fusebox, which is located behind the battery, over on the passenger side of the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:

I would suggest you are wasting your time. You may have a leak. If you can find the a/c compressor there are two lines attached to it. The larger of these is the low side of the system. Follow this line a short distance and you will come to a quick connect fitting. It will probably have a protective cover of some sort over it. This fitting is where you connect your fitting to charge the system. CAUTION, be sure the engine is idling and the a/c is on when you connect. The system can have well over 100 psi if engine and a/c are not on. CAUTION beware of the fan and belts. There should be instructions with the charge kit, READ THEM

Should I Recharge the Air-Conditioner of My Car?

On a hot day, sitting inside your car in the scorching heat of sun, you turn the air-conditioner of the car on just to find a breeze of hot air coming out. After a good time of ignorance and negligence, you expect your air-conditioner to work absolutely fine in yet another session of scorching summers. This is the most common problem that you can come across, but then, it can be easily resolved.

The most basic thing to make your air-conditioner function in a proper manner is turning the air-conditioner on for some minutes in order to lubricate the compressor and then recharge it if warm begins to come out.

The best and the most secured way to recharge your air-conditioner would be getting the help of a professional to do it. On the other hand, it is quite possible to do it yourself as well if you employ some specific tools. All you need to recharge your air-conditioner is

* A pair of goggles
* A recharging kit
* A refrigerant can
* A pair of gloves

A number of recharging kits come with a compressed refrigerant can with a kind of pressure gauge fitted inside the cap. This kit is considered the best and the simplest to recharge the AC with. Besides this, you need to take care that you do not spill the refrigerant coming into contact with your skin along with your eyes which cause frostbite.

Steps to Recharge Your Air-Conditioner:

Follow the golden-rule of safety-first and that is why it is important that you ware goggles along with your gloves.
Arrange the kit as given in guidelines which may consist of fastening a hose along with a valve to the refrigerant can.
Go through the manual of the car to find out the port of low-pressure. The hose would usually fit-in the low-pressure port.
Clear the exteriors of the port with low-pressure that you open, to avoid any type of thing from going inside.
Fasten the hose to the port with low-pressure.
Start your car and turn on the air-conditioner to the maximum setting. Ensure that you get a precise reading after a couple of minutes.
Prick the can as directed by the kit and attach the refrigerant to the port with low-pressure. You might require separating and rearranging the parts at this moment, but you have to follow the directions very cautiously.
Examine the pressure meter while you are attaching the refrigerant to it.
Detach the hose as directed.
Attach the cap to the port with low pressure.

In a nutshell, no matter what happens, you have to ensure that the refrigerant does not come in contact with your skin or your eyes for the fear of being triggered by frost-bite. Besides this, it is best if you take the help of a professional to recharge the air-conditioner of your car since, doing it alone, if you are a novice would create some or the other uncertainty for you or your car.
