i accidently purchased a non polarized plug to fix my vacuum plug, is that safe?
I had to fix my plug and didnt pay attention to the prongs when i purchased the new plug. i plugged it in and vacuumed just fine with the new 1, but what if next time i plug it in the other way? does it matter?. my vacuum isnt some heavy duty 1, its just a little canister vacuum.
Answer:
Polarized plugs are usually designed so that the current (Hot side) is interrupted by the on/off switch. If you plug the vacuum in the 'wrong' way, the entire system might be Hot with the current being interrupted on the Neutral side.
Generally, this is not a good idea as if the vacuum is damaged in some way even when it is turned off it could be dangerous.
