Frequently Asked Questions...
Anybody know what the value of this antique saxophone could be?
I found an antique sax in an antique shop. It was made in 1919 at the Elkhart Indiana Band Instrument Co. The research I have done so far brings me to the conclusion that it was made by Beuscher, not Conn because it is LP (low pitch) The serial number is 52263. It is silver plated on the outside and brass on the inside. It is in very good condition, and plays decent. There is a stencil of an elk on the front of the bell. And it is an alto sax. I hope I covered everything. Thanks
Answer:
Your sax isn't as old as 1919, the Elkhart Band Instrument Co. only began business in 1923. If there is a 1919 date on it, it is a patent date. (My 1925 Conn says 1914 on the back.) They merged with Buescher, and the Elkhart brand became their less expensive line (but still good quality). If it is in good condition and playable it is worth around $200.00 but to be worth more the pads and corks would have to be new, or in excellent shape. Alto saxophones are good because they are popular, but there are a lot of them.
