Can I get my dual-band telephone to work with T-mobile?

I have a tri-band telephone from abroad, which worked perfectally well with my T-mobile number. The customer service told me that I could get any phone and use it with their number as long as it's not locked.

So I had one sent to me from abroad (unlocked of course). Unfortunately, it's a dual-band telephone. I have not been able to get it to work. It keeps saying "no signal".

Is there anyway that I could use my new dual-band telephone with my T-mobile number (like I used to use my tri-band telephone)?

Answer:

Chances are that dual band phone from overseas is a glorified paperweight in the US.

That's because their dual bands are 900/1800 MHz. Cellular systems here operate at 850/1900 MHz. So I'm afraid that dual band phone won't work here.

Same problem if you bought a dual band phone in the US and tried to use it outside NorthAmerica. The NA dual bands can't operate in the rest of world's bands.

Your tri-band phone from abroad worked here because it had one of the two NA bands (1900) in addition to 900/1800.
