Frequently Asked Questions...
Which is the best (as in efficient, price/value and reliable) mini-split A/C brand?
is a Bristol compressor really much better than a Tecumseh? And how do you know how much BTU you need per area?
Thanks, first knowledgeable answer gets best answer.
Answer:
Why don't the people on here just answer the questions that you present.
There is only one "best" mini-split system for you. And that is the one in your mind gives you the best value for your money. There are many reliable brands - Samsung, Mitsubishi, LG, Fujitsu - complete withhigh efficiencies and built with the new R-410a (environmentally safe) refrigerants. They are all designed to perform the same task - cool down the indoor environment. Each of the manufacturers of these equipment have their own design signatures, but the basics are the same.
What I recommend is for you to get a quality HVAC contractor, preferably one that is a member of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA). Then you can be assured of the commitment to quality and professionalism of the contractor. They will measure your home's space and provide you with a Manual J load calculation which will determine exactly how many BTU's the space requires for cooling. Then they should provide you with options on mini-splits to accomplish the job.
Compressors are all good. Statistics show that over 80% of all compressor failures within the first year of operation are caused by the installing contractor, and not a manufacturer defect. Improper installation techniques, undersized refrigerant lines, over sized equipment, etc. Again, the ACCA provides information for your local chapter and should be able to provide you with a member in your area.
I hope that this answers your full question. If you want to get some more information, go to www.howellsac.com. There you will be able to find out more about system sizing, mini-splits, and installation practices. Good luck

As well as providing a selection of new and used products they can also service and test equipment once every six months to test for a range of problems including; oxygen content, water, odour, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and lubricants.
They can also offer advice to businesses on how best to run their machinery for hygiene, just some of the points that they suggest are; to have a dust filter installed into machinery, add a bacterial filter and check the dryness of this as bacteria can penetrate a filter if it is damp.
